FAQ

Do you have questions? Need answers? Look no further than our simple SIP trunking FAQ.

Go trunk is a world leading SIP Trunking solution. A SIP trunk replaces the need for traditional telephone lines to connect your PBX to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). With SIP Trunking all of your unified communications are delivered through a SIP provider. (A SIP provider is also sometimes called an Internet Telephony Service Provider, or ITSP.)

With Go Trunk you can:

  • Make and receive local calls
  • Make and receive long-distance and international calls
  • Call the emergency services (911 / 112 etc)
  • Make free Internet calls
  • Make low cost local, international and mobile calls

End users probably won’t notice much difference - although they might notice significant improvements in call quality. Business leaders will notice a sharp reduction in costs. And those responsible for overseeing and managing the telephony needs of the organization might find that they have plenty of time on their hands - because getting a SIP Trunking solution set-up and controlling it on a daily basis are both trivially easy.

Great. All you need is an IP-PBX. If you don’t know what that is or what it means then get in touch and one of our consultants will talk you through it.

Other than that, all you need is ten minutes of your time to get the system up and running.

No, there’s no contract and you are free to stop using the service at any time. This also makes setting up and trying SIP trunking easy, affordable and low risk. Simply create an account and get started.

Any broadband connection will be enough to make use of Go Trunk. Go here for more information and guidance.

You will need your own PBX (private branch exchange) which routes your calls around your organisation. In fact, it needs to be an IP-PBX, although there are ways around this requirement - by adding an Analog Telephone Adapter. Our consultants can help. If you don’t have a PBX, then you would need to purchase one. They are a complex bit of kit and can cost tens of thousands of pounds / dollars. Companies with fewer than around 700 employees are probably better off with a cloud PBX solution which requires no up-front expenditure, no set-up and no maintenance. Our sister service VoIPstudio providers world-leading Cloud PBX solutions.

SIP authentication allows you to challenge any incoming SIP calls and invite the sender to prove they are who they say they are. Needless to say, this is handled automatically by the technology. We provide two methods for authenticating SIP calls and allow you to choose whichever method suits you best. These methods are: IP ACL and password based authentication.
